Who Can Apply? Eligibility Essentials

Before upgrading your heating system, make sure you meet the main eligibility requirements:

• You must own the property (including rental properties) in England or Wales
• The property needs a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
• You’re replacing an existing fossil fuel heating system, not upgrading an existing heat pump
• Installations must be carried out by an MCS‑certified Installer

Note that new build properties, certain social housing, and systems installed before a voucher application won’t qualify.

How It Works. Grants to Lower Costs

The scheme provides upfront capital grants to reduce the cost of installing low carbon heating systems. You don’t receive the money directly; the grant is applied by the installer to reduce your installation bill. Typical grant amounts are:

• £7,500 for an air source heat pump

• £7,500 for a ground source heat pump (including water source systems)

• £5,000 for a biomass boiler in specific cases, such as off‑grid rural properties
